College Career Readiness: Scholarships

The National High School Oratorical Contest is open to junior high and high school students who are under the age of 20 and are citizens or lawful permanent residents of the United States. To be considered, you must prepare an oration on some aspect of the U.S. Constitution, with emphasis on a citizen's duties and obligations to our government. A complete list of topics are available on the Legion's Web site. Each individual state winner certified into and participating in the first round of the national contest receives a $2,000 scholarship.

The undergraduate award is intended for low-income families and is intended to alleviate the financial burden of funding tuition fees in Texas, whether at a 4 year or a 2-year college.
This scholarship is for students resident in Texas and studying in Texas as well as students resident in the United Kingdom studying in Texas. Students currently at college or high school seniors may apply.

Scholarship Description
Renewable award for graduating high school seniors enrolled in full-time program in family and consumer sciences. Must be Texas resident and should study in Texas. Must have minimum GPA of 2.5.

Any Texas high school senior planning to pursue a two- or four-year degree at an accredited college or university next year and currently attending public, private, or home school in Texas may apply.

The Driver Education Initiative Award: In the Driver's Seat, is open to current high school and college students. You must submit an essay of no more than 500 words that answers the following questions: What is the importance of driver education in reducing the number deaths as a result of driving? What steps can be taken to reduce the number of deaths related to driving? Have you ever had an experience of being in car accident or have seen your friends or family members driving irresponsibly? What steps can you take to be a better and safer driver as well as help others become safer on the road?

The 2023 application deadline is November 14, 2022 at 11:59 p.m., Pacific Time.
Awards: The Elks National Foundation will award 500 four-year scholarships to the highest-rated applicants in the 2023 competition.

The Cooke College Scholarship Program is an undergraduate scholarship program available to high-achieving high school seniors with financial need who seek to attend and graduate from the nation's best four-year colleges and universities.

The $2,000 Minecraft Scholarship is open to high school and college students. You must be a U.S. citizen, have a minimum GPA of 3.0 and submit an essay of at least 500 words that details your opinion on how Minecraft can be a positive influence on education and career development in order to be considered for this award.

The Terry Freshman Scholarship, known as the Terry Traditional Scholarship, is awarded to Texas high school seniors who have been accepted for admission to one of the Terry-affiliated public universities in Texas.

The Urban Scholarship Fund is for graduating high school seniors, new and/or returning college students attending any accredited nonprofit public or independent two or four-year college/university or technical school. ANNUAL awards are $700 for community college, junior college and technical college; $1,000 for public four-year college/university; and $2,000 for independent (private) four-year college/university.

The Irene S. Wischer Education Foundation Scholarship is a renewable scholarship award, and the value is based on the applicant’s demonstrated financial need (not to exceed $11,000 per academic year). The length of renewal eligibility will be commensurate with the length of the student’s course of study.
